Department of Defense (DoD) Instruction 5105.49 states, "The establishment of local advisory committees…fosters the concept of participation in school affairs by members of the school community. It is the policy of the Department of Defense to encourage professional employees and family participation in the formation and operation of overseas local advisory committees, to promote the vitality of these committees, and to preserve their integrity and independence of actions." Furthermore, the instruction indicates that the SAC is responsible for advising the principal on all matters, including; school policies, instructional programs, staffing as it relates to the instructional resources, program evaluation, student standards of conduct, school meal programs, and other educationally related matters. A strength of the committee is the positive working relationships fostered between school administration, parents, and educators. Notice of SAC meetings takes place in the Eagle Express. All meetings are open and parents are welcome to attend. If you have an idea or concern for the SAC, but cannot attend, give your idea/concern/problem to a SAC member and it will be added to the agenda for discussion, or use the “Rocky Comment Card” located at Reception and ask that it be forwarded to the SAC for discussion or review. SAC Minutes: 13 Sept 07, 19 Nov 07, 10 Jan 08 Lakenheath Elementary School has an active and dedicated organization of parents and teachers known as the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO). Its main function is to unite parents and teachers so that our children are provided with a well-rounded education. PTSO provides invaluable guidance and supports a variety of programs that enrich the lives of our students. They also provide “school spirit” items for purchase at Rocky’s School Store, which have a variety of items with our school logo such as sweat shirts, water bottles, pencils, back packs and much more! We invite you to play an active role in your child's education. Come join us! To volunteer your valuable time, fill out a volunteer survey form at Reception or call the school at DSN 226-3721.SCHOOL/HOME/PARTNERSHIP School/Home/Partnership is a DoDDS initiative designed to provide meaningful involvement and participation of parents and the total community in promoting the social, emotional, and academic growth of children. At Lakenheath Elementary School, we strive to support this concept in all aspects of school life. Our Parent Center is a great source for information about PTSO, SAC, and other activities that help support our programs. We have a School/Home/Partnership Committee whose mission is to provide guidance and suggestions to reinforce collaboration between the school, parents and community. One popular activity directed through the School/Home/Partnership Committee is Rocky's Café, where once a month, we invite families to bring a lunch to share together with their child in our Parent Center. Reservations are required, so please check the Eagle Express for specific dates. We also have a mentoring program, which matches military members to students who have similar interests. We welcome your ideas and involvement in our school! Just phone DSN 226-3721 with ideas and suggestions.VOLUNTEERS Throughout the year, we are always seeking help from parents who are willing to volunteer in our media center, health office, classrooms, and main office. There is no limit on the number of volunteers that we can use or the types of services they can provide. Volunteers are an important component of our “We C.A.R.E.” theme. We believe your presence in the school connects our students to the “community spirit” we strive to convey to them. The focus of our School Improvement Program (SIP) promotes a caring community coupled with high academic expectations. Parents working with teachers in the classroom help promote these values in a way that allow our students see them in action. Your involvement is appreciated at all levels, and in all areas, of our school. Please contact one of the school administrators if you have a desire to participate on one of the school committees associated with our School Improvement Leadership Team (SILT). Contact the school at DSN 226-3721 if you would like to learn more about these committees, or any other LES volunteer opportunities. |
